In Thailand, the Udorn Royal Thai Air Force Base enjoys the protection of Brigham Control, a strong working partnership between U. S. Air Force and Royal Thai Air Force personnel. Brigham control is a joint operation consisting of the USAF 621st Tactical Control Squadron and the RTAF's 8306th Aircraft Control and Warning Squadron. The Thais, who control the T-23 aircraft, and the Americans, who control the F-102's, conduct frequent training missions to insure a state of peak readiness. As pilots wait in the ready rooms, the controllers scan their radar scopes. If an airplane in the area cannot be identified, the "U" sign is flashed and the call to scramble goes to the pilots. If the unidentified aircraft is traveling at low speed, the Thais scramble their T-28 interceptors. If it is flying at a high speed, the Thais ask the Americans to scramble the supersonic F-102's. Within three minutes from the call to scramble, the interceptors have roared into the air and are on their way
to predesignated intercept points to identify the aircraft.
